MyTeksi is a Malaysian startup which has successfully improved the local taxi experience significantly. At the push of a few buttons a taxi is readily available faster and safer than ever before. To house their staff and the engine room behind the workings of this establishment, the MyTeksi office was set up and we at KECH Design Studio had the privilege of working in partnership with them to make it happen. The meeting rooms are carpeted in artificial turf. When required, the folding doors open up to create a bigger meeting area. OSB board is used on the walls and tempered glass with black steel frames for the panels. The tempered glass is sandblasted on the outside to provide a writing surface on the inside. A playful take on the taxi business is reflected in the use of “Hired” signs using the iconic MyTeksi logo which actually light up outside each meeting room when the room is in use! The dry pantry and brainstorming area are laid out in a chic black and white backdrop with a hint of neoclassical detailing seen on the dado panels. The high-standing island in the dry pantry made of recycled timber palettes and copper piping is an ideal meeting point for a quick chat and pleasantries over a cup of coffee. The brain storming area which is adjacent to the dry pantry is a break out space for group discussions and small team meetings. It utilizes the wall surface as a projection screen for visual media. In addition, the wall perpendicular to it is coated with Idea paint which makes it writeable and a great surface to map out ideas and solutions. The short brick wall is a subtle demarcation of spaces in an open plan and now doubles as a projector stand! Recycled wood is used to create this feature wall which is a transition space between the semi-public and semi-private spaces. Creating texture and depth to the space. The customer service area is provided for the MyTeksi company to meet with its taxi drivers who would like to air their grievances or need assistance. The smaller room is a seclusion point for more privacy for cases which turn hostile or if they are dealing with a sensitive issue. Thoughtfully, the customer service centre comes with a built-in stress releasing point – which is open to use by both customer and client. The staff work station is a large communal working space which like the meeting rooms, the walls are painted with IdeaPaint to create a writeable surface – in this case a wide expanse of writing area for ideas to flow! To be cost-effective and reduce wastage, old carpet tiles were salvaged and paired with new carpet tiles to create the patterned layout seen here. The fluorescent lights were fitted in a star formation for a playful feel. How pleasant to always be able to see the stars in the sky!
